Community Seminars

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder caused by structural, functional and/or neurotransmitter alterations in the brain. It was first recognized as a medical condition over 200 years ago, and today affects approximately one in 20 children. Although ADHD is the most common childhood psychiatric disorder in Canada, it continues to be under-recognized and underdiagnosed.

With this seminar—which is geared toward adults—you can help improve ADHD awareness in your community, and provide valuable support for parents, caregivers and teachers.

Topics include:

• understanding ADHD
• dispelling ADHD myths
• addressing your emotions as a parent/caregiver of a child with ADHD
• behavioural management of ADHD
• learning about ADHD medications
• resources for parents, caregivers and teachers

Materials include a PowerPoint presentation, presenter’s script, and handout for parents, caregivers and teachers.
